“I look forward to the new changes in the VA, which will provide opportunities to partner and collaborate with all our stakeholders,” said Desert Storm Veteran Robin Korogi, newly appointed director of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Montana Healthcare System.

Korogi is replacing the former director Joe Underkofler, who is retiring after 37 years with the system. When Underkofler announced his retirement last August, he stated that it was because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Korogi was associate director at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System before her appointment to VA Montana, and has served in a federal capacity for 30 years, 11 of those with the Veterans Health Administration.

Korogi’s appointment as director was announced Feb. 9th.

The Montana VA has 1,000 employees and includes 13 outpatient clinics throughout the state, a 50-bed hospital and a 30-bed nursing home.

The agency also has plans to build a 24-bed inpatient mental health facility in Fort Harrison. Ground breaking is scheduled Feb. 16.

Korogi is a Desert Storm Veteran, holds a BA in Management from Park College and a master’s degree in human resources from Utah State University. She also retired from the Air Force Reserves after serving for 22 years.

In addition, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, she attended the VA Executive Career Field Development Program, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
